WESTFIELD CEMETERY (also known as SANDHILL CEMETERY)
The first burial grounds at Westfield were on the land adjoining Hoover's Church. When this church was moved and the new Westfield church built, the tomb?stones and markers were moved to the Westfield cemetery on the hill, on the south half of Lot 31, Conc. 4, on the two acres purchased from James McVittie for $200, and registered in 1878. The first trustees were William Carr, George Fothergill, Robert Johnston, Adam Hoover, Joseph Jackson, Benjamin Whitmore, John McCullough and George Tindale.
The earliest burial recorded here was of Phoebe McDowell, age 45, wife of William McDowell, in 1865 and the last burial was of Margaret Annie Wightman, aged 71, in 1948.
This cemetery is now maintained by East Wawanosh Township.
