Notes:
It is believed that the Dilworth Wesleyan Methodist Church, built in 1866, stood on the northeast corner of what is now Brandon Cemetery, on Lot 42. Conc. 9. It was the custom of those of the Methodist faith to have a burial ground beside the church, and the 1879 Huron County Atlas shows a gravesite here.

In 1884, an acre of land was purchased from John Brandon, for $25, to be used as a burial ground. It was first called Brandon Graveyard and later Brandon Cemetery; people of all faiths are buried there. Brandon's trustees were William Hopper, William Wray, Thomas S. Brandon, and Matthew Brandon, while Mrs. Wray was appointed secretary-treasurer. One of the first ways to raise money for this cemetery was a tea meeting.

Fifty lots, 8' by 10' in size, were surveyed in 1885, and sold for $8. A closed board fence was built in the southeast corner.

In 1922, another acre of land directly to the south was purchased from Percy Scandrett for $200, and lots here again sold for $8. By 1927, this new part was landscaped and a community canvass was held to provide funds for the upkeep of the cemetery, and to hire Henry Venannerman of Henfryn to level and improve the old section, at a cost of $400. The present entrance was erected in 1935 by John Adams of Wroxeter at a cost of $335.

Each year since 1936, the three churches in Belgrave have taken turns holding a memorial service in Brandon Cemetery on the first Sunday in July. An arrangement for perpetual care for the grounds, adopted in 1943, is still in use.

In April 1979, the cemetery board bought two more acres along the west side of the cemetery from Norman Cook, for $3500, partially financed by East Wawanosh and Morris townships at $650 each, the Belgrave Kinsmen at $500, and the Belgrave Women's Institute at $200.
While the Boy Scouts and Cubs were active in Belgrave, one of their annual spring projects was to have an Arbor Day at the cemetery to tidy up the flower beds at the front entrance, and to plant bulbs supplied by the Women's Institute.

In addition to the first four trustees mentioned, George Daley, Joseph Brandon, Charles Procter, Charles Wilkinson, John Clegg, John Stewart, George Cook, Alex Porterfield, Stewart Procter, Herb Wheeler, and Kenneth Wheeler have also served.

The 1990 board of trustees includes Ross Anderson as secretary-treasurer, Wes Cook, Garner Nicholson, and Clare Van Camp.

Many other local people have also willingly shared in the care of the cemetery, and deserve credit for keeping Brandon Cemetery in excellent condition.
